Risk Analytics Dashboard

A portfolio case study for a dashboard and data workflow focused on monitoring exposure, anomalies, and decision-ready metrics in near real time.

This project explores how I would design a lightweight but trustworthy analytics stack for risk and performance monitoring. The goal was to move from scattered spreadsheets and manual checks to a clearer operating view with consistent metrics and faster investigation.

The problem

Teams often have data, but not enough confidence in it. Metrics are calculated in different places, definitions drift over time, and analysts spend too much effort reconciling numbers instead of interpreting them.

For this case study, I focused on three priorities:

  • centralise key metrics in one modelled source of truth
  • surface unusual patterns quickly
  • make the dashboard useful for both daily monitoring and deeper analysis

What I designed

I structured the workflow in layers:

  • ingestion for raw source data and operational event logs
  • transformation to standardise business rules and metric definitions
  • analytics to expose clean tables for dashboards and alerting
  • monitoring to highlight outliers, threshold breaches, and sudden changes in trend

The dashboard itself was designed around questions that decision-makers actually ask: what changed, where it changed, and whether it needs action now.

Stack and approach

A setup like this works well with tools such as Python, SQL, dbt, a warehouse layer, and a BI tool on top. The technical emphasis was not just on visuals, but on data quality, reproducibility, and definitions that remain stable as the system grows.

I also treated documentation as part of the product: metric naming, source assumptions, and known caveats were all written down so the dashboard could be trusted by more than one person.

Outcome

The result is a case study that shows how I think about analytics systems: clear modelling, fast access to decision-ready information, and a workflow that helps teams spend less time validating numbers and more time acting on them.
